Memory of Indian Himalayas : Ladakh Jammu & Kashmir

My first visit to Indian Himalayas was Jammu & Kashmir in 1970, I was then college student. We trekked to Amarnath, we had a plan to trek via Batal, Sonamargh. It required more preparation for security clearance. That I came to know after visiting the office of Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, the office was located Defence Headquarter Area. The team had left Kolkata for Srinagar. We had to take pilgrimages route.

Next time in 1975  I went with an Japanese team, ( Japan Self Defence Force)  to climb Sickel Moon in Kishtwar region, as Indian Liaison Officer.  It was a virgin peak.In 1973 an attempt was made by a joint team of Indian Army & Japan Self Defence Force (JSDF)..We lost two lives during this expedition.

I was again back in 1979 for Indian Army, Regiment of Artillery  Pre Expedition to Kedernath Peak, it was held at High Altitude Ware fare School.(HAWS).

I do remember my first cooking I did it at Youth Hostel at Messenjore, Birbhum, West Bengal, this hostel on the hill, by the road side  of water reservoir  on  the river Mayurakhi.. I liked the motto of Youth Hostel is Self Help. I learned how to cook, and clean the hostel where I stayed.
